It does <strong>not<\/strong> apply to Hatch Restore, Hatch Rest, or other Hatch sleep devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Restoring a Hatch computer to its factory settings will <strong>erase the data stored on the computer<\/strong> and return Windows to the original factory configuration. Before beginning, back up any documents, files, or other information you need to keep.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the computer connects to a wireless network, also make note of the <strong>Wi-Fi network name and password<\/strong>. The factory restore process removes saved network connection information, so you will need these credentials to reconnect the computer afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re unsure whether important data has been backed up properly, don&#8217;t begin the restoration until the files have been verified or copied to another location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Restore a Hatch Computer to Factory Settings?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through our experience providing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.landontechnologies.com\/head-start-technology-support-planning\/\">technology support for Head Start programs<\/a>, we&#8217;ve occasionally needed to restore legacy Hatch Early Learning computers to their original factory configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A factory restore may be useful when:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Windows no longer operates properly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A learning application has become unusable<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Malware or unwanted software has damaged the system<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Software problems are difficult to repair individually<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The computer needs to be returned to its original configuration<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hatch All-in-One computer used for this tutorial includes an <strong>OEM Factory Restore<\/strong> option within the Windows recovery environment. The steps and screenshots below document the process we used on a Hatch computer running <strong>Windows 7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Warning:<\/strong> A factory restore is destructive. Complete and verify your backup before proceeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Start the Hatch Computer and Press F7<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Power on the computer. When the initial startup screen appears, press the <strong>F7 key<\/strong> on the keyboard to access the recovery options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter\"><img screen should appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Using the arrow keys on your keyboard, highlight <strong>Repair Your Computer<\/strong>, and then press appear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember that restoring the factory image will erase existing data on the Windows installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you begin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A progress window should display the status of the restoration and an estimate of the remaining time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do lower-right corner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hatch computer should reboot automatically and begin loading the restored Windows installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure Hatch computer to your network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If the computer previously used Wi-Fi, you&#8217;ll need to select the wireless network and enter the Wi-Fi password again because the factory restoration removes previously saved network connection information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 13: Select the Windows Network Location<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After establishing a network connection, Windows 7 may prompt you to select a <strong>Network Location<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before returning the Hatch computer to normal use, verify that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Windows starts correctly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The keyboard, mouse, display, and network connection work<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The computer can connect to the internet if required<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Required Hatch learning applications are present and working<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Important files have been restored from backup if appropriate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because this procedure restores the computer to its original factory image, additional configuration or software updates may be necessary before the computer is ready for regular use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Troubleshooting Older Hatch Computers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hatch Early Learning computers were available in different configurations, so the recovery process may not be identical on every system. The instructions above were documented on a <strong>Hatch All-in-One computer running Windows 7<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What If F7 Does Not Open the Recovery Options?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If pressing <strong>F7<\/strong> during startup does not display the recovery environment, your Hatch computer may use a different recovery method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An older reader of this article reported using a Hatch <strong>Imagination 2009.1<\/strong> computer running Windows Vista SP1 with a hidden recovery partition. Older Hatch systems like this may use a different startup key or recovery procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than experimenting with recovery options that could affect the computer&#8217;s data or recovery partition, first identify the exact Hatch model and version of Windows installed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What If the Recovery System Asks for a Password?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some Hatch computers may display a password prompt when attempting to access recovery options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Unfortunately, there is <strong>no universal Hatch recovery password<\/strong> that we can provide.
